One Act, Four Scenes, And Its Watching You.

Prelude:

Behind closed eyes, a radiating white wall. At it's heart, an empty frame is ruffled by a breeze that cannot be felt. As a shadow approaches, the frame settles down. And just as a hand reaches out to touch it, the frame bursts into life...

Scene 1: A Picture Of Life.

It's a bright spring morning. The grass hugging the hillock could not be any greener and full of life. Aves brimming with energy and romance swim the blue oceanic skies. A young blossoming tree provides company to a youngling, who lives his dream of flight with a colorful kite, which indeed reflects the colors of spring around him. He runs around in muted but vigorous animation, trying to make his kite kiss the fairy wisps of cloud that surf the sky. The little joy of spring suddenly stops, and looks over his shoulders...

Scene 2: A Picture Of Promise.

A hot summer afternoon makes the shade conjured by the mature tree an inviting spot for the young couple. Youth is in the air and a lot of life is revolving around the place with the tree being ripe. The couple look perfect for each other, and the muted cuddles and giggles could steal anyone's heart. But there, he drops to his knees holding her hands ever so gently. As he arises to his feet, her pearly tears of joy get their due attention, and she falls into his arms. The two embraced recluses of summer look down with their eyes closed, as if in prayer...

Scene 3: A Picture Of Reflection.

An autumn evening has the hillock covered with russet leaves. The old tree is fast losing it's cover to the strong mocking breeze. The brownish hue painting the hillock makes life difficult to spot. The wind makes puppetry out of the fallen leaves, which were once the pride of the great tree. Of all the noiseless commotion, there are but two motionless figures that catch the eye. A somber cross marks a precious spot on the hillock. And the spot is being watched over by a pair of grave eyes that belong to a man whose silhouette speaks of age. Hunched over a walking stick, he stands there still, unruffled by the taunting autumn breeze. His thoughts are flying, far beyond the bounds of that melancholic hillock, seeking his beloved out. The last rays of the day make him take a coveting look at the setting sun...

Scene 4: A Picture Of Beyond.

A winter night has tucked the hillock in carefully, under a thin layer of snow. The night sky has the hint of a moon, and is dotted with countless orbs. The surreal starry sky carries messages from galaxies far far away the mind yearns to decipher. The starlight echoed off the crystalline blanket now reveals not one, but two crosses on the ground. They still do look made for each other, embraced for eternity. A promise fulfilled. The winter breeze whispers lullabies to the children of time, resting in the mother's cradle. Our tree has not withstood the test of time, but has planted hope through its seeds, that await spring, to fulfill their promise...

Postlude:

The eye opens to greet a starry night sky. We lay on a snow covered hillock, hand in hand...

Ulti - B'day

It was a pretty mild celebration. Ulti boy was largely unavailable for a much more intricate scheme. Oh, before I forget, I was talking about Ulti boy’s B’day. It’s always been a special occasion in our hostel. Let me just walk you through a little bit of history on this matter. In the first year, when we had just joined the hostel, Ulti boy used to get pulped on anyone’s birthday..! Birthdays are like witch hunts in our hostel by the way! A good 30 strong company would march to the poor soul’s room in the middle of the night to deliver a pretty audible greeting. And by audible I mean, not the voices of the company, rather it was the yelps and horrendous screams of pain from the aforementioned poor soul! But then again, I suppose people did enjoy shining others’ boots on their bottoms in rapid succession, all the good name of birthday bumps!

But Ulti boy was special. He was more of a finishing touch to anyone’s birthday! At one point, things got so bad, that he used to get ‘lifted’ wherever he was seen, even in college. Such was the legacy of this dude. In comparison to those days, this year around was pretty mild. We got a nice tee shirt for him, but didn’t give it to him right away. With the left over wrapper, we flicked his geometry set and neatly wrapped it up. Actually the prank gift looked more compelling and desirable than the actual package! So we geared up for some solid fun.

It was a Saturday night, and the mess is closed for good on Saturdays! Dinner was on the B’day boy and so were the little cute bottles afterward! On the way to the restaurant in the car, we gave him the proxy package and asked him not to open it till we reached the place. It was a long drive to the joint through the infamous city traffic jams. And all along, we were asking him to guess what was inside the beautifully wrapped swanky package. He was no where near. And the best part was that we had hyped it to way over the moon! We could literally see the expectations ooze out of his eyes inside the dim car. Poor chap.

Finally, we reached the dining table through all the chaos the city had to throw at us. And it was time! Shortly after placing the order, he was finally ready. With the remaining three of us giving him those innocent all pleased eyes, he began to unravel the mystery. Just below the shiny gift wrapper was another layer of newspaper. I just wanted to make sure our pleasure lasted as long as possible, even if it were by a few seconds, I know, I’m wicked!

He had only just gotten the paper off, with his eyes all popping out, than was he greeted with the all familiar red glint of his daily desk-mate. I’m guessing that for a fraction of a second there, we had his heart racing. I feel that boys always love gifts that come in neatly wrapped cuboids, and they attach high anticipations to them. And this kid wasn’t an exception. The moment of glory for him did exist, but pity it was just for a few nanoseconds! O the dejection on his face. I was too amused by the unfolding events to notice the curses that flew our way. He couldn’t even pick it up due to the state of shock. I’m presuming all the hype didn’t go to a waste.

Well, in most cases, we would have called off the prank and ended matters. But this was Ulti boy! We were going to rub it in real good. We started to justify our actions, and I’m sure that’s the last thing he had expected. Come on, here is a guy on his birthday, he is in the process of buying us dinner, and he got a lame gift. We were definitely pushing the envelope as far as possible! We stared rambling about the sentimental value of the item, and asked him not to be materialistic. Ha ha.. Cracks me up even now! With every statement we made, came a curse from the other side. It was fun!

Finally dinner was done. Next stop was the near by shop where the bottles were available. Loaded, we trudged to the car. Ulti boy was still reeling from the evening’s events. He started to make open threats as to what may befall us on our B’days. He even said that he had never felt any cheaper in his entire life…! And that was the mission accomplished subtitle for me! Back in the car, the real package flew towards him, and the child like anticipation was back. We asked him not to open it again till we reached hostel. This time, he was understandably suspicious. He had figured that it was some cloth by the feel of it, and was guessing it might be hid own used undergarments. Not blaming him!

Back in the den, he did open the packet and liked what he saw. Half hour and five Foster’s later, we called it a day. B’day of a star of my blog.

Cheers............

Oh wait, did I tell you about his new gold chain…? He looks so ridiculous in it…! All that bling never suited him. Loads of rip-off in store for him for making this ‘expensive’ mistake. haha...

Grow Up Kiddo...!

I remember, back when I was a kid, my parents, tutored me to respect elders. They almost made me feel like they are from another planet, and they are not accustomed to kiddish customs. Just one small badly timed comment in their vicinity would earn me a few, lets see, unpleasant rewards! I'm pretty sure, most of us have had this drilled into us in one way or the other.

When we were in school, the whole class used to whine in chorus whenever we got homeworks, or bad marks in exams, and then get really judgmental on the teacher. Some teachers we universally hated, and some we just loved. Yet, they were elders, and not our kind. Some thing kept us apart, talk in class, don't do your assignments, or involve yourself in some sort of mischief, and you may very well be on your way to corporal punishment, or even worse, a date with the principal - the supremo of their kind.

Now I am in college, and I can say with confidence, we are still kids here! Just today, we were supposed to get the results of a recent test, and turned out the teacher was not generous with the scores. The hallway was rife with dejection, resentment, and huddles discussing the unwelcome attributes of the teacher involved. Another teacher who gave pleasing scores was drawn up for a comparison, and things fell short of forming a fan club for one and a hate club for the other. Still, we were kids there, mischief could get us in to trouble. Though corporal punishment can be ruled out safely, the 'D'ate with the principal again, gets scarier than school days. They were definitely not our kind.

All this took me back to an event in the recent past - a visit to my school, some five years after seeing it last. Some thing was very different, you would know if you have gone to your school after many years. Visiting those classrooms where you have spent more than half your life, reliving every memory that comes out of your mind as a reaction to a bombardment of familiar sights and faces. It was magical. I really loved meeting almost all the teachers that day, no matter who they were. They were visibly older and some were even shocked to see me, taller and looking, well.. all grown up! But there was no barrier. I could probably get away with anything I said that day with probably just a smile and a laugh. No principal to worry about, no notes to the parents to dread. It was great. But was i 'grown up' then?

Just then, I saw one of my former teachers installing discipline into a bunch of eighth graders. I could almost see myself among them. I could predict every word she was saying, including the accent, it was like sown into my brain! And then I imagined what would have been running on the minds of those "kids", and the answers were not far away. I felt a strong urge to meet as many kids as i could and give them gyan about what I had seen so far, but then i restrained myself. Where's the fun if they don't learn it by themselves. Moreover, they most likely would not understand a word of it! I came back that day with a piece of mind i never had before. Suddenly, they were not a totally different kind.

Pulling myself back to the wretched hallway, i realized we were thinking no different than we were kids. There was still the cribbing, and all the complaining. Wondered where i would be a kid again some ten years down the line! Probably in an office, or may be an in-law's house on a comical note!

All this makes me ponder, do people really grow up? And how exactly is growing up defined? Whenever i see a person these days, i spend a moment to see the kid in them. They are all just right there in front of us! All of us smile when we see two small kids quarreling over a trivial issue or push each other around. But then why are things so different when the same thing we behold in the so called grown ups? Every argument, every expression of surprise and wonder, every fight on the street involving grown ups, usually tend to evoke a different response than when we see kids do the same. I feel that people never change throughout their lives. All their childhood attributes stick on tightly, and come out during the right sort of circumstances, be it school, college or a work place.

So should i try and smile away my lecturer the next time she held me up for not doing something..? Yeah Right..!! The next thing i know, i'd probably be on a freaking death march! I guess we are meant to crib. It gives us some amount of comfort that cannot be substituted by other means. After all, aren't we just kids? Theres still lots of time to grow up.

The next time i see someone older than me staring me in the eye and giving an all knowing smile, i am sure i would be like a small kid looking at candy through a glass box, which is not meant to be opened. It's all right there, but yet out of reach. But they are so attractive, shiny and colorful wrappers and all...

Kids will be kids, and they rock...!

My Sunset

I happened to find myself sitting all by my myself on the balcony the other night. The day was sweltering hot and the pleasant breeze on my back was very welcome. I was facing college, towards the field where the fest main stage was put up. A billion thoughts were running in my mind, a perfect evening!

It had been an emotional closing for the fest, and the momentum had not ceased inside of me. I was made to wonder, about everything that I am and everyone I can think of. There are so many people who have played a part in my life. I suddenly felt my life was like a picture of a tree, only that it is a collage of a million hand prints, each that have touched me, with care and purpose. I do marvel at the creator of our existence, such a perfect chaos! Staring into the night sky, pictures of all my loved ones came flashing by, some smiling, some crying, and some stretching out to choke me! The breeze, still soothing me, pushed my thoughts to newer bounds.

I was made to wonder what each person was doing at that moment... and pretty colorful images popped up! I marveled at the complexity of our existence. I saw one dressed up in proper corporate attire putting up a busy show, another presented me the picture of a successful artist, one of them was showing me the way through a forest, I got hellos from a couple of friends abroad, the list was endless. Each of our lives were so different, along so many different paths, yet something knits our lives together. My mind had to offer only a collage of the pictures of all my dearest pals. They were all smiling and well, and that made me happy.

I do hear a lot of people say about life's crossroads, but I had never experienced it until recently. The last night of the fest, during the curtain call was a moment of revelation for me. I had a few good moments of stimulus and reactive thought. The sights and sounds from all around me put me on a quest for answers. I was surrounded by many of my dearest pals, each in their own states of emotional equilibriums. The whole arena was a concoction of emotions. And though my face held up a broad smile, I cannot assure my mind was in agreement. There are very few moments in my life where I was made to ask myself "What now..?", and that evening was one of those moments.

It took me another full day to totally come to grasp what had flown by. And that night on the balcony made me feel like I was watching a movie of our parallel lives. I still had the sticky question ringing in my mind. The question of five years down the line popped up, and I was wondering where each of us would be. There was no dearth of imagination there. But just then, as if to wake my mind up, the breeze pressed against my back. I was made to realize that we can never be away from each other. We breathed the same air, and something made me believe that the breeze that had been keeping me company for the night was caused by the racing thoughts of all my friends. I could only wish for them to enjoy the breeze of my thoughts as well. "The Worlds Is A Small Place" took a whole new meaning for me!

I am living the fabric of my life, of which I form only a small insignificant strand. All my friends make me complete, with colors and and a close knit. And together, we form the sail on the boat to beyond, cradled by the ever faithful breeze toward the never ending sunset.

When you are with me, there shall be no tears, love you all.

Palm Sunday

STATUARY WARNING : THIS PRANK IS NOT COPYRIGHTED, EvERY ONE WHO READS THIS POST HAS TO REPEAT IT ON SOMEONE THEY KNOW, IF NOT THE EXACT STEPS, A LITTLE BETTER. AND THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO AVOID LAWSUITS...!

The day was like any other sunday. Just that... many palm trees would have suffered.
I didn know anything about palm sunday till my roomy brought back from church some weird looking ties made of palm leaves. and in case any of my beloved readers are still wondering what palm sunday is all about, just look it up in wikipedia!

My roomy brought three to four of those palm leaf thingees, one for each of us in the gang. Ulti boy came hopping along into the room as usual. And with his usual inquisitiveness, questioned about the new additions to the room. BIG MISTAKE..!! Being the usual self that i am... i put up the straightest of faces possible and told him convincingly that they were meant to be eaten...! And my roomy... being the usual trusted roomy that he has been all this while.. played along. The last thing that we expected was for ulti boy to buy the package, but then, impossible is nothing, to quote a major sports goods manufacturer.

Ulti boy managed to squeeze out a "really..? " in a trusting tone. We just nodded, with the hopes of a highly successful rip off brewing in our minds simultaneously...! Ulti boy did have his doubts though. Although he had a very high susceptibility rate to getting busted, come on, he does have a brain..! He didn totally buy it as soon as we said it. And to make sure he doesn become suspicious, we didn push for it either. The entire day.. ever few hours or so, we'd just remind him to have his leaf, again, with the straightest of faces. It was so meticulous..! And every time...after making sure he is not in the room, us roomys exchanged malicious grins..!!

And so the day proceeded, with high anticipation among us mortals. And finally, the time to hit he sack had arrived. Ulti boy brushed his teeth, with the usual fervor. All of a sudden, he rolled into the room, holding the potent palm leaf in his hands.

The stage was set, to the right... he had my roomy clicking away on his lappy... to his left he had the good ol me... dwelling on another lappy. Then, the golden words came pouring out of his mouth, controlled by his weak sleepy brain... "Hey dude... How do I eat this..? " . The scene to his left presented the devil staring into an imaginary point...suppressing bursts of laughter with herculean strength and biting his lips. To his right, my roomy, summoned all his strength, stifled an explosion of a laughter, and managed to squeeze out.." Just take a bite out of it dude.." . And the moment of truth presented itself.

All i heard was the crunch of a coconut leaf. The same crunch, that ulti boy had felt in his blessed mouth. The next thing ulti saw was us roomys rolling on the bed with laughter.. And laughter would be an understatement..! I, for that matter... had laughed with that much vigor after like ages..! That expression on his face, of being royally jacked, was priceless..! i Laughed soo bad... i had to stop cause of chest and stomach pain... and i could not see anything cause of the tears of laughter pouring out of my eyes...

After laughing like for about ten full minutes, we regained our senses...it was a day to remember. We managed to get onto our feet and go to ulti's room, just to make sure he didn commit suicide. We just said... "Dude... u simply rock... only u are capable of doing this..." and we were right...

Thats palm sunday for you....praise the lord...!

She Will Find You

Inspiration is such a mysterious person. I have been searching to meet her for quite a while now. How I just wished to gaze and drown in her deep dark eyes. She remains so anonymous; yet once she is with you, you just cannot miss her. The ways in which she works, are beyond my comprehension. I have come to believe that without her, life’s definition would smudge. It has been a long day today. And yes, Valentine’s Day. I must say, It was just another day to me. But the dying hours of this much celebrated dusk gave me a rare spectacle to feast upon. I felt rejuvenated, and was instantly drawn to write about it.

After relishing a steaming dinner, I found myself strolling back to my den with a myriad of thoughts coursing my mind. I have always believed that finding yourself alone in the night, out in the open will lead you to the deepest of thoughts buried inside of you. With my hands deep inside my pockets, I was making a journey, one step at a time. It had been ages since the last time I had seen her. There was a clear starry sky, and a cool breeze to appreciate. The street lamps managed to send in just the adequate amount of aura through the trees to help my eyes discover. I stood still for a moment and closed my eyes to sink into the laps of tranquility. I wished for the same peace to grace everyone in the world, it would be such a better place.

Night has a great quality of adding a new dimension to everything we know. Strolling on that path, I began to take note of things that were missing. So many things that I usually take for granted during the day, were coming alive in front of me from the darkness. Like phantoms, they took birth and glided by my side. In the empty parking lots, I saw many a friends huddled together in mute but animated conversation. The gardens gave life to the phantoms of the gardeners, who in turn were returning the favor to the gardens. The road had a carpet of dried leaves and fallen fruit covering it. Though my eyes were kept busy in their endless quest, my ears spoke to my mind, just of the chorus of the breeze and the leaves rustling overhead. Every step I took forward, made the earth speak. It felt like a private conversation between the earth and my feet that I could not comprehend. The leaf litter made sure that they made themselves well heard. The canopies looked all the same, the uniform dark shade of gray. It was hard to believe that hundreds of avian souls made peace above me, for all their chatter gave birth to the sweetest of melodies.

As I went further, I happened to look above. And then I noticed a tree. Keeping to autumn, the tree had shed all its leaves, and bared itself for the world to see. The tree was a magnificent creation. Its slender twigs and branches were all randomly scattered with chaotic precision, yet in the most beautiful manner, they were in balanced harmony with my eyes, my mind, and my soul. As I proceeded forward, still marveling at the sight, a concoction of elements engulfed me. The dull street lamps, the moonlit clouds which were vaguely visible from behind the cacophony of twigs and branches of the tree, the breeze which floated my spirits, and finally my movement forward. My eyes were fixed on the manifestation, and as I walked forward, everything around the tree was set in motion. I was made to believe that only the tree remained still while the whole world swirled around it. All of eternal existence danced around this supreme structure of tranquility. And there, right in those few seconds of revelation, I was inspired. The mosaic of a structure placed in a twirling background played a beautiful trick on my eyes. The multitude of twigs and branches slowly but gracefully transformed into the flowing hair of a woman. And with every step forward, they rippled like the waves of the ocean. Yes, she had found me.

In those few seconds, when my senses were bashed numb, my mind realized some truth. The moment I envisaged her flowing hair, I leapt to a place unknown. I still cannot express fully that feeling; it was a sudden moment of realization and a suppression of all emotions. Just as quickly as she appeared, she was gone the next moment. And I found myself back on the same path heading to my den. It was a beautiful experience.

I realized one thing today. No matter how hard I try to find inspiration, it is just not in my capacity. I have also changed a major belief today, never go looking for her, she will find you. And in those few moments that she graces you with her presence, she will cast a spell on your mind, and leave a lasting memory. Yes my friend, she will find you.

Beatles - Across the Universe

This song is one of my favourites...
One day i came across the lyrics...still recovering...

Hey... listen to it before reading the lyrics. Here.

Words are flying out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai guru deva

A Festival of Lights Indeed

A Festival of Lights indeed

Standing in the dim porch on a festive dusk, chatting away and wishing all my friends on the occasion, I waited. It was a long drive across the city, dotted with explosions and a bright display of the might of fire. Standing in that porch, memories were streaming through me, like the clouds in a hill station, but only this time, these were warm memories. The last time I was there, it changed my life. There was so much energy there. I can still feel them. Everybody was excited, the festival was such. It was a pretty dark evening, and the porch was lit only by a handful of small lamps. But no amount of darkness could subdue the spirit on that day, it was a great day, a day of celebration. Everybody had the right to celebrate that day, and we were there to make sure just that.

As I stood there reflecting upon my past, the silence in my mind was shattered by the chorus of countless little voices. Their prayers rained upon us like a torrent from up above. It flooded the porch to exact for itself, a few moments of silence. Silence that made us think, of our purpose, of reality, of reason, and of the moment. A few moments after the prayer took up silence, it was time. I was standing there absorbing every single moment of it. After they finally reached downstairs to the gates, they poured into the porch and filled among us. For a moment, a hazy picture of a river gushing past tranquil rocks along its course emerged in my mind’s eye.

Through the torrent, a small hand landed in my palm, for me to gently hold. And as I did, memories coursed through me like electricity. I was taken back in time, to my previous visit to the place, to the bright evening, to the lovely energetic bounding souls that quenched my eyes. I was hauled back to reality by the gentle tugs of a little boy, whose voice reached me from in the darkness. It was time, time to sate the festival’s due. We grabbed a few fireworks to light them up, to bring light upon the dark porch. The next hour flew past like the images through a train window, dotted with bright bursts of fire and color, and equally bright faces of content and innocent awe.

The pace of the evening was now slowly taking a retreat. With the fireworks exhausted, the innocent but convincing little lamps made their presence felt. They were seen floating around in the porch in little and cautious hands, spreading light and spirit. Friends were bidding adieu, and others were catching up on each other’s lives. A corner of my eye caught a little girl being lovingly hugged and swung around. Moments later, the porch looked like the way it was before the festivities, the little ones had made their way back in. It was a moment of reflection for me. The events of the day were so profound. A lasting image had been etched into my heart. The porch was the same old porch, and we were standing in the same fashion as we were a couple of hours earlier. It was later in the night, but then, strangely, the porch was not as dark any more. It was amazing how much difference in perception the mind can have. It was as if little orbs of light and energy had blown away all the darkness from the porch, and even after they were gone, their radiance had left a lasting light in my mind.

The festival of lights has come and gone, but the spirit still remains….

a quick fire 10 minutes of scribbling on the book... to give life to the image in my head...

VTU Fest 2007 - The C-29 saga...

C-29

Hello mate… ever wondered what all that hoopla happening in campus was about? A small bunch of people chanting our good old college name near katté in high spirits, then just dissolving only to regroup chattering away just an hour later…! And yes, no one could have missed the Bulls are Back calls. My inside sources told me that it was audible even in the hostel buildings…! Even if you missed all this, you could not have missed the same bunch of people moving around campus in groups to every department parading a pretty large trophy. And if you missed all this, then you definitely were not in campus on that day, and yes, this is worth knowing about…let me start off then.

Friends, Romans, Countrymen… oops…Friends, Indians… and my fellow Bulls… lend me your ears…! For those not in the know of the recent commotion in college, I bring great news. It is with great pride that I bring to you this news of a magnificent victory, one filled with every emotion that you can possibly think of. The trophy that I had mentioned about previously was from the VTU Fest, held at SIT-Tumkur, from 25th to 28th of September. And since it was the largest trophy of the entire fest, I need not mention what it was for need I? 60 odd colleges, 4000 thousand strong crowd, and one mega… MEGA…youth festival. Every time I catch a good memory of it, I relive the moment, and when I relive the moment, it’s like the feeling of dissolving into a rock concert crowd...!

For the team that represented college, the trailblazers, the fest did not start on the 25th; in fact it started almost a month earlier. The backbreaking training that the various teams went through was for one and one reason only… to reach glory, and beyond. And that my friend we did, in style. In my honest opinion, it would take me four full days to paint a picture of those four days in Tumkur. But, since this article cannot go on forever, I might miss a few details. Pardon me team, if I miss anything that you think I should not have. From night outs in our college to night outs in SIT, it’s been like a “been there done it all…” experience… if you know what I mean! If you guys can remember, like for a week before the actual VTU Fest, the MPH always had some activity or that other happening every afternoon. Well those my friends were the humble beginnings of a gigantic tide.

Well the fest was about cultural events. Music, dance, theatre, literary and fine arts, these were the categories the events were sorted out into. And for four full days and nights, the whole campus was one buzzy place. For each individual event, a team of bulls toiled to perfection. Then again, I should remind you, the fest was not just about winning. It was a little bit of everything, and a whole lot of fun. And especially with the whole bunch of guys sleeping on campus in class rooms, you can only just imagine the possibilities. Having past scores to settle with other colleges, practice for the events, helping out other teams with preparations, running around cheering for our performing teams, keeping track of slots allotted to us, following the points board, and with our horns locked onto the prime targets, the four days were a blaze.

The fest started off really slow on day one. And after the score sheets were displayed at the end of day one, the energy was low in the team. One special feature that I noticed about this fest team was that it had been through all the emotions by the time the big baby was in our hands. But through thick and thin, the team held through, and by the end of the fourth day, no other team was as strongly bonded as ours. But that was just the first day; the remaining three were such a stark contrast to it. “The team will synergize once we start winning...” I got that from one of us on the team. And man, he got that bang on. Because from the second day on, there was no looking back for the team, we just sailed through to the finish line. I must also let you guys know that the BMS bunch in that college this time around was a fairly small one. But heck, we are the bulls. And in royal style, every where we went, people recognized us. Even if it were just three or four of us, as against the norm of the entire team from college, people would turn around to recognize us. That’s something to remember. And need I say that we were undisputedly the noisiest and most enthusiastic crowd there..? Every time a result was announced, and we ended up getting into the top three, you could always find out where the rest of the team is by trusting your ears!

It was not all a smooth sail either, there were moments where people lost it completely due to debatable evaluation and when hopes came crashing down. Then again, the team stuck together and held each other up gracefully. Ultimately, it was the experience of being there and giving it your all that really mattered. We were there to prove ourselves first, to make sure that our vision materialized. Once we achieved that, we could just laugh away these minor annoyances. More over, once we saw our college right on top on the leader board, energetic chants and slogans followed. All the lung power put together created a cascade of overwhelming noise, which washed away all that was not needed from our minds.

This time the team had come prepared. We had a really efficient student event documentation expert amongst us. You could also call him a photographer! One could always find him running around gathering images with many gadgets in his backpack. He claimed that his backpack was the most expensive one of the whole troop, and for the right reasons..! His prime motive was to freeze those moments in time which we will cherish forever. From the winding bus journeys to all the happier moments on campus, he has them all… in his backpack!

The final orientation program on the last evening was moment to remember. The entire team came down from the holding quarters like a snake, quite literally. We snaked our way down two floors one behind the other to catch everyone by surprise. Then we entered the auditorium to attend the prize distribution ceremony. Those moments were the pinnacle of all our efforts, for in those moments, we struck pay dirt. All of us went ballistic as and when the individual event prizes were given away. And for the big daddy trophy, the entire team found itself perched up on the stage standing shoulder to shoulder, then letting every single soul present there know just one thing… Bulls are Back… Bulls are Back…

Later we found our team and MSRIT team cheering and dancing together. This was exactly what the fest was about, cut throat competition, but super glue unity…

It was now time for the total chill out back in the holding quarters. The music team did its magic again by playing dandy beats to which all our souls danced. Later after that having done, along with the numerous photos of the smothered trophy, we packed and loaded the bus for the journey back home. It was a very memorable outing, especially for the outgoing batch. I saw many eyes drowning in tears of joy, and many that spoke a thousand tales. Many were lost in reflection, in worlds filled with memories. Memories which inspire, memories which bring back to you all the good old times…as for me, I was cherishing every single moment there, cause I knew for sure that those few days of my life will stay with me for a long long time to come.

Many souls, Many dreams, One college, One aim, One life…

The gold is back home where it belongs…

PS: There are a lot of funky details and incidents that I have deliberately left out from this article, cause it would not sound ethical to mention them on mass media… my invitation would be for you people to get inquisitive and mingle with the fest teams… and trust me.. they will have motherloads to tell..!
